How did Scrapbooking Begin?

Scrap-booking is a fun and artistic hobby that many people enjoy. It is a creative and fun way to organize and preserve special moments. Scrapbooks might contain photos, old tickets or the bill from a birthday meal, for example. People enjoy decorating their scrapbooks to make them look bright, colorful and artistic.

Today, scrap-books are most popular with teenagers and creative people. Many school students keep a book which contains special messages from their friends as they leave school to go into their next year or to remember friends made on holiday or vacation. Some older people enjoy creating these special books for memorable occasions also. They may want to commemorate their high school prom, for example, showing photos of themselves wearing their glamorous dress and www.77diamonds.comjewellery. A special scrapbook made for a wedding day could contain memorabilia such as table name tags, the dinner menu and bits of confetti attached to the pages.

However, as much as scrap-booking might seem like a fairly modern hobby, it actually dates back to the 15th century. The 'commonplace' book was one of the first types of journalling; it was a way for people to compare recipes, quotations, letters and poems.

In the 16th century, friendship books started to become popular; these books resembled modern day scrapbooks. The journal would be designed in whatever fashion the owner wanted and inside, contained special messages and illustrations from friends.

One of the first published scrap-books was from James Granger. He wrote a book about the history of England but deliberately left a few spare pages at the end. This was intended so that the owner of the book could add in their own thoughts or illustrations. This became known asgrangerizing.

Scrap-books have since then developed into box-like containers. In this case, the box would be decorated. Inside, it would contain physical items such as found or recycled objects. Some people may make their scrapbook-box into a time capsule which they bury for a decade. After time has passed, they dig up the box and reminisce about the objects it contains. Whether you keep scrapbook albums or memory books, or whether you create scrapbook boxes and time capsules, you will find that this is a fun way of keeping memories alive.
